I posted this in another thread that had a towing review of the 6.4, but should have posted it in this thread:
the wife and I went to look at a 2014 6.4 today and we loved the truck, however this one didn't have shift on the fly, so it had the manual transfer case shifter on the floor with the storage mess on the floor next to it. First thing she pointed out "where am I going to put my feet when I sit in the middle?" I told her if we got a model with shift on the fly the floor will be available for the third persons feet to rest.
since she is the person that sits there when the kids have a friend along for the trip, she got in and folded the seat up and tried it. completely uncomfortable for anything more than a 5 minute ride! The console flips up, but does not recline and you feel like you are getting pushed forward into the windshield.
In my Tundra the 3rd seat is equally as tight to the dashboard, but once it flips up there is a lever to release and recline it back further making it tolerable.
also what is with the rear seat being cut away in the 3rd person spot? just for access to cup holders?
I'm majorly pissed at Ram for not making the 3rd person seating functional as the 3rd person is a requirement for us (at least in the front) we are sometimes 5 people and the 50lb dog...the dog will hardly complain of the small back middle seat, but the front jump seat could be the deal breaker.....very sad since Toyota has it figured out and mine is the bottom tundra grade!
We then stopped and looked at a 2015 f250 which had a full rear seat, but the front jump seat was the same as the ram and did not recline, it was however a little more comfortable possibly an option....although the 6.2 with the 3.73's felt like a dog compared to the Ram 6.4 with 3.73's
I can't imagine that we are the only people to complain about this? I wonder if anyone has come up with a mod to allow the jump seat to recline back further?
I think if it did, the Ram would have been in my driveway today.
in addition we are also now considering used 6.7's, there are a few 2011-2012's around in the $35k range. I know the 2013 6.7 received some changes, but is there any concern with the earlier years?
