latest update:
yep, I'm still looking....
I guess the good thing is that my Tundra is still a fine truck and I don't NEED to pull the trigger immediately.....
The bad thing: I have too many choices the more I look around, but we have test driven many vehicles and learned a little more about each brand in the process. which complicates the decision even more.
originally I was looking at only ram 6.4/4.10 combo, then I also started looking at f250 6.2/3.73 combo (forget about finding 4.30's)
options as far as gas motor used trucks around here:
The ford 6.2/3.73 really felt like a dog...at least in my limited test drives, however there are a few used 2014's around $34k
I can only find used Rams with 5.7/3.73 combo locally...for about $32k
all of the above mentioned trucks have around 12-14k miles and where part of a rental fleet.
along the way I've also seen some diesels that where also part of the rental fleet for about $38-39k...both Ram and Ford 6.7's
I wasn't really looking for diesel, and technically I don't really need over 800 ft lbs of torque to pull 7500lb, but with the price a bit closer to the gasser's it's a bit tempting!
I still haven't been able to find a new gas truck locally with all of the options I want, so I would likely have to order it for about $38k, which is stretching my initial budget by about 3-4k.
so if I'm stretching my budget for a new truck, it also puts the used diesel within reach....
I don't want to start a diesel vs gas debate and I know the advantages and disadvantages of each, so I'm looking for a little input on purchasing a used diesel that was part of rental fleet for ~ 1 year.
since I don't "need a diesel" and the slightly better fuel mileage is mostly a wash due to diesel being $.75/gal more expensive around here...... the attraction for me is of course the effortless pulling, but more so the exhaust braking.
I know the ram comes with the exhaust brake, but did the 2014 Ford 6.7 have an exhaust brake?
