Front cap waxing?

The top 2 feet of the front cap is starting to oxidize/haze over. I usually wax it once a year and it stays indoors more than it's outside.

I am hoping a simple wax takes care of the hazing. I use meguires marine/rv fiberglass wax usually (I think 56). I see they make an oxidation remover (49) and a polish (45). Are either of these ok on the cap? Is it OK to use any type of polisher/machine? Or should it be cotton /hand only?
  • Try shark hide. Google it. It's made for bare aluminum but does wonders on faded gel coat. Lasts about 2 years. Just wipe it on. I use it and all 4 sides of my painted aluminum trailer and of course on my aluminum boat.
  • You can waste your time waxing but the fade will come back . Only fix was to paint mine ...now just a quick polish once a yr
  • I've had success on the front cap with the three-step Meguiar's M4965 Marine/RV fiberglass restoration combination you mention above. Did by hand as I was afraid of making a big mess with the buffer. Test an inconspicuous spot first. Afterward I use their #50 cleaner wax twice a year on the whole RV. My cap faces south all summer so after a four or five years it is time to do the three-step again.
  • I have done my cars in the past with great results. I wasn't sure if you could use a cutting pad on the cap, it sounds like you can though? I may try a small spot to see how it works today.
  • I use Meguires cleaner wax on cars/trucks/boats/50 hp blue tractor/Cub Cadet/zero turn....and my old '97 32' 5th wheel trailer.
The front cap gets about 3 wax jobs a summer mainly to make cleaning bugs off lots easier...and keeps it looking like new. I wax the front while still hooked to the truck.

I detailed for a car dealer ('50s) while in HS and learned quick about burning paint off with a machine.
I don't own one now. Pretty easy doing it by hand.
  • Yes, McGuires is a three step process. Yes, use a low speed buffer IF you know how to use it. Improper use could cause surface burning and end ip making things worse if you dont know how to use it.
