There is a forum for Cummins owners, with an obvious name (I don’t know if we’re allowed to link other forums) where you can do some research.
You have a Dana 60 front end, and it’s a kinda crummy version of one.
You can swap parts from a ‘95-‘97 Ford style Dana 60 and you can install later model steering parts.
In the process you’ll get manual front locking hubs, which are a superior setup over the Dodge “Central Axle Disconnect” setup.
When things keep breaking, make them better when you fix it.
The ‘94-‘02 “2nd Gen” Dodge is a great truck but it has its issues that need to be improved. That’s one of ‘em.
You can also install later model steering without swapping the Ford outer axle parts. And you can put on “3rd gen” brakes, which are larger.
