Interesting. When I bought my 97 F350 4x4 diesel new, the front end (Dana 60 on leaves with upper and lower ball joints) lasted 50K miles and was sloppy. Replaced everything myself plus tie rod ends and did an axle flip plus roller beatings in the spring mounts and I've never had an issue since, but I grease it every oil change. If my feeble old mind remembers, I have I think, 14 zerks in the front alone, not counting the greaseable Super U's in the driveline or the slip splines. The roads up here are garbage and I run the truck off road with the TC in the bed.
Factory components have, 1. Planned obsolence and 2. Cheapest components available.
