Front Hitch Generator Mount / House

There is really a lot of room for airflow around the box, and in chatting with others that have even larger items on front hitch I'm thinking it will be just fine.

Planning and thinking aside, I'm headed out on a five day boondocks this a.m.

I'll let you know if I have any temperature problems when I get back.

When I did mine I was concerned about keeping the box down below the grill so it wouldn't interfere with air flow to the radiator. But then mine was for storage and not to hold a genny, so I could use a lower box.

Well I have finally completed the project that I posted the drawings on a couple of months ago.

First I replaced the tow hooks with two new modified receivers.

Second, I built the rack to hold a generator and its box.









Finally I built the aluminum box, mount of the generator with a fan for pressurizing the box and keep it cool.

The box is completely lined with "B Quiet Insulation".

The unit runs very quiet and I'm getting ready for my first five day run into the wilderness.

At this time I have a waterproof plug (yellow) to hook up to the camper when I am parked.

When I return I will run the powerline back through the truck and up to the camper.

I'm going to modify the original tow hooks to mount in the receiver tubes with hitch pins. (and if that doesn't work for some reason, I'll get some ready-made ones for that purpose)

Yes, 4 big washers -- made it a tight fit, and prevented bending the frame. (about 150 ft-lbs on the nuts)

I'm sorry it's 2x3 channel. I don't know about putting a receiver into it, it would have to be welded to the 2x3.
