If I were to fab a box to install my generator, I would have removable panels. The top and front panels would be designed in a way I could leave them on when using the generator, and/or driving on the highway. I would want the option of running the generator while camped and on the highway. I would design it so when closed, with or without the sides and back panels, it would/could be locked in the back of the box, between the box and grill. This allows for use of a padlock in a location difficult to cut the lock.
With the top and front of the box in place, and the sides and back removed, there is plenty of air flow, and generator is protected from the elements. Louvers would not be needed.
As it is, I prefer to have my generator (Honda 2000) mounted in the rear of my TC, for several reasons. A bigger generator would not mount as well in the rear as my Honda is mounted.
