Take a look at your tow hooks when you remove them and you will see that they are placed at an angle so they miss the 3 inch crossmember of the frame.
My receiver was cut so it would simply fit in that space. (No bending involved).
If you pull your tow hook I think you'll see what I'm talking about.
I'm not sure about yours, but on the 3500 in the same year as mine (2003) the frame is identical, as are the tow hooks.
