Frontier owners, get in here.

I had a Frontier as a shop truck for my lumber business .
Great little truck with lots of oomph .
I think reality is that an A-Liner or Chalet is about all you will WANT to tow .
A 16 foot aerodynamic trailer not more than 7 feet wide would be my limit .
I am adjacent to the Cascade Mountain Range .

Weighs just under 4000 pounds ready to go camp. A big part of the key here is proper setup of a good WD hitch. Also, when I first bought the trailer, it had load range C ST tires. I pulled it some with those, then pulled them off and replaced them with load range D LT ( Kumho 857 ) tires. That change made a noticeable improvement in towing stability at highway speeds.
Overall, this is a very good match, IMO. The truck pulls this trailer easily. I have had it from the gulf coast to Wisconsin, from Ohio to Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, and am now in Arizona. In all normal running, I can get the job done with 3000 rpm, occasionally to 3500 rpm, and on very rare occasions 4000 rpm. Having said that, bear in mind I have a manual trans, which give me 3.69 gears, which is better suited to towing than the auto trans trucks with their 3.30 gears.
I have averaged 12.4 mpg for all my towing miles.

As others have said, and as is usually the case, the first limit you are going to hit, is rear axle load, and truck payload. I travel solo, and am close to both of those parameters, so if I had to add passengers and their stuff, I would quite likely be over the stated limits.

For what and how I do this I love the combo.

My wife's 4.0 Frontier quad cab has some power, we used to tow a 2200lb pontoon boat, pulled good, I would never tow a Frontier any where near its max towing weight, I think Nissan put that to high, I would keep the total weight under 3500lbs if possible, popup campers over time you might out grow, look for the newer low profile TT with small slide outs, keep length at 25ft max or less, you won't out grow those as fast as a pop up.

All set up, we have 2650 lb. on both axles of the truck and 3800 lb. on the trailer axles. 10 to 11 MPG. I turn off overdrive and have little problem maintaining 65 MPH until the hills get pretty steep. Have had no sway so far. We have only made 300 mile trips (one way) with this rig. But that's the most we want to drive in one day, anyway. The Frontier is by far the most enjoyable truck I have ever driven.

x2, BTDT. 06 Frontier towing 4050lb 22' TT. 8.5 mpg. You need to according to Nissan lockout OD. It will like APT said run at 2500-3000rpms. When we were towing on the freeway @63-65mph there was not much left on the gas pedal. Wasn't floored but when pressing down on it, it hardly accelerated much more. That told me it was pretty much maxed out. If you only travel on the flats with no strong head winds then you may be fine. If however you are in hilly or mountainous terrain then the Frontier will be hunting for gears all day.

FWIW we moved from the Frontier to an 08 F150 5.4 3.73's and went from 8.5 to 10.5 mpg. The towing experience also improved greatly.

From my personal experience I wouldn't go over 3000lbs loaded and on the lines of something like an R-Pod style or small Lance. The less frontal area the better.

Everyone has different expectations about towing an RV. High walled RVs are hard work for the tow vehicle. That's why they all get 8-10mpg at 65mph. Are you prepared for cruising at 2500-3000rpm with downshifts on hills to 4000-5000rpm?

Pulling A 20' Coachmen Catilina with a 2006 Frontier 4.0 v6 extended cab, It pulls well but you will know its back there. I really do not try to take off quickly I just ease into it. Pulls well at 60-65 mph when on interstates. Not sure about hills since I am a flat lander from Louisiana.

Your pinch points for staying under max load ratings is the Frontier gross vehicle weight and the gross rear axle weight.

We travel light, no kids, no pets, no bikes or boats. I've been on the scales a couple of times and i've been under max weights but not by a lot. My trailer is rated at 3,850 gross weight with max axle rating of 3,500. The trailer is also 7.0 feet wide so that gives up living space but keeps weight down.

Having said all that the Frontier handles it really nicely. Plenty of power but be prepared for MPG of 10 to 11 when towing. You will also need some type of towing mirror add-on to really have a good view around the trailer. I went with These and they are pretty stable.

Because I went with dual propane tanks and dual 6V golf cart batteries I have a lot of weight on the trailer tongue. If I had not bought a weight distributing hitch I would be over the 600 lb tongue weight limit of the Frontier. The WDH shifts some of the tongue weight to the front axle and the trailer axle.

I have the Crew Cab, 4WD 4.0L with automatic. For the two of use this combination is working out very well. Major upgrade from our pop-up camper.

I had a 2008 4 door NISMO and towed a 21 footer. Your truck is rated at 6000 but I would NEVER for any reason tow over 4000 with it.
