Fuel Economy on 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 with the 8 speed Tranny

Two more quick questions for owners of Chevrolet or GMC vehicles with the 6.2L EcoTec3 V8 with the 8 speed Transmission

1.) Mileage, good? Any comparison with D/A towing or not towing?

2.) The Navigation GPS option in both above vehicles...is it worth it? We have used our Garmin(s)....now on third one since 2003 and love them, especially we set our trip to and back from Florida on our computer putting in our fuel stops (14), our overnights(4).
Use waypoints to steer us onto the routes we know is best rather than what he GPS determines to be the optimum route. So big question to anyone with one in-vehicle is it programmable to allow a 2100 mile trip with like 25 steering waypoints and if so can one do it on the computer and download the trip like I do it now on my laptop?

Any advise is greatly appreciated as we get ready to possibly trade in our D/A for a new 1500.Thanks.Ernie

  • I had a '14 GMC, towing was 10+ MPG and unloaded was usually about 20mpg..
Mine had nav and i could play back and forth with the iphone app and send maps back and forth, never tried from computer.
Overall I really enjoyed my 6.2l - just needed something bigger as circumstances changed..
  • Our former k2500 Suburban with the 8.1L and 3 speed towing 7500-8000lbs was 6-8 depending on the hills and 11 around town. Our 2015 F250 6.2L 6 speed 3.73 rear. Around town its in the 14's. Towing 12.5. Very impressed. I was concerned with getting a gasser and wanted a diesel, but Im very happy with the gasser as we only tow 20 days or so, and I didnt want to pay the diesel price penalty
  • My 2015 6.2 consistently gets 10-11mpg towing a 8300lb TT. Compared to 8-9mpg when I had my 2013 2500HD w/ 6.0 towing the same TT. Non-towing mileage is great with low 20's on the highway.
  • When it comes to towing, a gasser is, well, a gasser and thus will have a thirst for fuel. With the 8 speed and your current TT being not too heavy, mpg should be better than previous gassers although I doubt on par with diesel mpg. Not towing, the tech behind the 6.2 should deliver impressive mpg for such a large powertrain. There are many variables that can change mpg from one trip to the next, although the one that we can control is how heavy our foot is. I use a Chevy HD gasser to tow our 9K# 32' TT and long ago stopped worrying about mpg since there is not much I can do other than slow down. Enjoy your new truck!!!
