T/P got to say I totally disagree with your thinking. If your filter starts to plug it will make the lift pump work harder and cause it to fail sooner. How much sooner who knows, it will also starve the injector pump. Not a good thing and not a cheep repair!
I agree with N-Trouble, not changing out a filter to save a few bucks is like not adding a lube additive to a per 2007 diesel. Will it hurt your truck :@ most likely yes! But with the cost of these systems both gas and diesel why would someone risk it?
You mentioned Ford :R pulling lift pumps to check for rust, that is a last ditch effort to screw over their customer! If your tank had enough water in it to cause the lift pump to rust then the WIF (water in fuel) light should better have came on! All the posts about CP-4 pumps failing never had a WIF warning that I ever found! BTW the WIF warning is logged into the ECM and would be able to be found.
