I suspect that GM and Ford are waiting each other out to release info/specs on their 2017 powertrains. Both are releasing a significantly upgraded HD pickups for 2017 and no one wants to release their truck and have the guys across town up them by 10 hp.
A battle between the two heavyweights, its a good time to be a consumer!
Can you say +450HP and +1000ft/lbs torque. :E
Yeah, and it don't make sense either. All of the big three can tow way more than they can handle now. It's silly. They need to concentrate on more usable options and quit worrying about who can get to the top of the hill faster. Very few people including me never see the full HP out of their truck now days because they have to put so much torque management in them to even make them drive-able. Sure the numbers look good on paper and the commercials. Why does a pick-up need as much hp as a truck that tows over twice the load day in and day out? They don't.
Because people by them and they are fun to drive. The same reason we purchase sports cars capable of speeds approaching 200 mph.
What more usable options are you looking for in a truck? I am sure they will show up if enough people want them.
OH, I don't know. Maybe stuff like on board air systems that can air up tires or maybe run small air tools. Have you looked at all the wasted space in front of and behind the rear tires? Make nice places for tool storage or maybe with the added fuel economy they could give added fuel capacity.
Don't get me wrong, they are working on some pretty cool stuff like air ride and such but they are really IMO concentrating to much on power and not enough on some of the other things. They have technology on some models but don't offer it on others. It would be nice to get a Heavy Duty Cummins powered 3500 Ram to do the heavy hauling and towing and get the sway bar from a Powerwagon that can be disconnected for better off road use on the farm. Maybe, 4 corner full air only suspension on the 3500 that works like the system that is on the Jeeps to where you can adjust for ground clearance or kneel to depart from the vehicle. Maybe A/C power to run tools like saws and drills working in the back 40 and not have to carry a generator.
