FWC v ATC

Anyone want to touch this one? :)

I have done the math and it looks like they are pretty close in price for what I want (pretty minimal t/c). They will both be less expensive then a Northstar or any of the other popups I've found (base price of a Northstar for example is considerably more than an optioned FWC/ATC).

So, at this point I am more concerned with quality of components or build quality between Fourwheel Truck Campers and All Terrain Campers. Another thing that interests me is the use of aluminum. I've always thought aluminum would be brittle and prone to cracking, but both FWC and ATC talk about it being part of a flexible frame. Seems counterintuitive to me, so school me.

I've also spent a lot of time at WTW reading, but thought there might be additional opinions/facts available here.

Thanks.
  • My friend bought a FWC for his Toyota Taco, it is tiny and cost as much as my used 1071 Lance with a slide, they seem to be over priced when new
  • From what I've found there isn't much savings in a used one though. Seems the used ones sell for d*mned near the same as new, when you can find them.
  • Fully-appointed campers are a dime a dozen, relatively speaking. The basic ones are hard to find and the people who are selling them know it, because they went through the same process as you are now.

This is precisely why I "settled" for a camper with bells and whistles instead of what I wanted/needed. All I wanted was a bed and a hot water shower, but the price premium involved in getting it didn't make sense when I could get so much more for less, and have it now.
  • Seems counter-intuitive, but I think you're absolutely right. If all goes well, I'll order an FWC in August or September. It'll be more expensive than the more fully appointed Northstar, but it'll be exactly what I want.
