;) - AH64IDExplorerHey knucklehead.. who are you calling a knucklehead??
- Crazy_CooterExplorerI can agree with everything ah64id has posted above. A lot less smoke and heat overall with this turbo. I run the Smarty Sr and it helped with exhaust temps. I can spool without issue at 7,000ft+.
Both Edge and Quadzilla were horrible for extreme exhaust temps.....
...and I hope they don't discontinue this turbo cause it just works on the trucks that actually "Work"! The friend of mine sells a lot of these, so I assume he would know. I picked up a spare cartridge last year, so I'm covered either way!
Funny to see all you knuckleheads from the Cummins Forum over here too.... - AH64IDExplorer

The stage 1 is too small for anything newer than 2003, it doesn't have the airflow needed on the compressor side.
I run the stage 2 and it's a great towing turbo, I know several people that run one as well and they all like it too.
Hey, I know that call sign!
If AH says it's so then it probably is. ;)

ah64id, Thanks for the feed back.My truck is an 06. Can you tell me what I can expect on the economy side? I have done the intake, exhaust and have an EZ "edge" chip.
I noticed a little better econonmy empty and towing smaller trailers, but not much with a barn door TT.. just working it too hard. It is a much more responsive turbo and the motor is much happier above 2200 rpms, by sound and feel.
The stock turbo has so much back pressure that it starts to choke even at low load.
You will see a slight increase in empty cruise EGT's, if you monitor, but above about 1/3 throttle they come down. It's not a big increase and back when I wasn't custom tuned the turbo's favorite temp was 1000° pre-turbo, up from about 850-900° on the stocker. I was able to put about 50rwhp more down with the same EGT's and carry the power thru higher altitude.
I will say that if you like to tow at 1400-1900 rpms I would stick with the stock turbo, nothing out there can beat it below 1900. But if you spend most of your time at 1800-2500 then this is a great upgrade.
Now for a little soap box, ditch the "EZ" it's a pressure box which is about the worst thing you can do for your injectors.
Something like a Smarty Jr is far better as s towing upgrade, it will increase economy (a little), decrease EGT's, and just make the truck more driveable. But depending on your trans it can create a need for other upgrades, especially since you tow.
Intake and Exhaust don't do much below the 450-600 hp range, respectively. They will help a little at higher rpms, but with the stock turbo (or even the Garrett) they flow adequate.Crazy Cooter wrote:
I have the stage two on my 2006 as well. Best towing turbo I have run yet.
I had just heard this week that it is/was discontinued?
I haven't heard that, and it's still on their website but that doesn't mean squat...
I'll ask around. - Crazy_CooterExplorerI have the stage two on my 2006 as well. Best towing turbo I have run yet.
