Gas for Generator

Now that I have the generator, I need to find a way to safely carry an extra gas can in the back of the pick-up. I was thinking about a jerry can with a carrier somehow attached to the bed of the truck so it won’t move around while traveling.
What types of gas cans are you folks using and how do you carry them? Are the cans with the new CARB approved nozzles as much of a pain as I have heard? Thanks for the info.
  • I have a 5 gallon plastic gas container that stores the pour spout under the lid with a GOOD sealing disk. It does not leak when tipped over or when bulged with internal gas pressure. It was upwards of $20.00.

I also have one that does not seal well and will leak if the gas splashes around in the container. It was a $7.00 wonder and sits at home for use with the lawn mower.

They both have that annoying safety feature that requires pushing in on the spout before it will pour.

Yep, and you can connect it to a generator that has a fuel pump, such as the Honda eu2000i.

  • I much prefer the older Gott gas jugs. They're short and squatty on the bottom - not tall and top heavy, so they don't fall over. I go to garage sales once or twice a year looking for them.

If the CARB approved ones are what I think they are, I think they're very dangerous. If they fall over, the spout breaks and leaks gas. They were selling these in all of the stores here for a while and everyone raised so much noise over them that they quit selling them. Find some of the Gott jugs, don't overfill them, and put them in the back of your truck. You'll be fine.

  • Available in 1 1/4 & 2 1/2 gallon sizes also.

    5-Gallon

Do not fill to max. leave room for expansion.

I also use non-ethanol gas & Techron for my generator & fuel stabilizer while in storage.
  • Depending on the container, there are ways to deCARB them. Search Google and YouTube.
  • The new nozzles are so much of a pain that old gas cans are fetching big bucks on ebay.
