Gas mileage with a Dodge 1500 with a 5.7L V-8

My V10 gets 6-8 towing 6000lb.+ my 5.4 v8 got about the same. My 5.4 was better around town, the V10 is much better towing!!

7200lbs 2012 4x4 5.7l ram, 3.55 gears, at 100kmph I get 9.5mpg on flat land, 8.5 with hills. tow haul all the time or it hunts and temps rise fast.

I get 11 mpg towing or not towing with my Hemi Ram. Suggest you get the dual's and cold air intake for another 20-30 hp. Tow in tow mode and watch for gas about every 200 miles, mid-range gas.

You may find an electronic copy of the owners manual more helpful at times as it allows you to search for keywords.

Please use tow haul mode. Page 405 says to do it when towing for specific reasons. You may also want to use the Electronic Range Select to limit the top most gear when towing. I suspect you'll be happy towing in the 2200-2500rpm range on flat ground at 65mph, so whatever gear that leaves you in is better than lugging in one gear lower.

My two cents, I get 8 MPG with a 1996 Chevy C1500 pulling a 2009 Starcraft 241RKS at 6,300 lbs, my mileage is 8 mpg at 65 and it drops so much at a higher speed. Pulling that highwalled unit creates a lot more drag.

If I travelled at 50 on backroads I actually got 10, at the time I thought my calcuations were wrong. :h
