I will be odd man out on this one. What you need is HP. You don't gain HP with a gear change. (Oh you may gain a bit from keeping your engine in it's power band a bit better but it won't be much.)
HP is a time base formula.
To make math easy if you go from lets say a 2 to 1 gear to a 4 to 1 gear you will double your torque but half your speed. What gain is there?
See the point?
What you need is more HP to pull the hill faster and you won't get that from a gear change.
