Generator outlet.

While camping recently I fired up the genny and plugged it in to top battery off. When I went inside the trailer I heard a cracking noise. It was coming from a GFCI outlet and finally tripped. I went outside and plugged into the other outlet on the generator, from then on everything was fine. Is it likely the outlet causing problems is putting out less then desirable output. Can one outlet be bad for some reason.
