I have a Honda EU3000IS and bought it with emergency power for the house in mind as well as dry camping. It will run the furnace and a few other circuits in the house if we are careful to keep the load balanced. I would only buy an inverter style generator because of sensitive electronics in a lot of things these days, not the least of which would be my furnace in the house. Saving a few hundred on the initial purchase price doesn't mean that much if your generator ruins a $1000 circuit board in your furnace at 40 below zero. The Hondas and Yamahas are by far the quietest and that's also a consideration for me.
