Genny Exhaust problem

My propane generator exhausts right under the slide out. Of course that lets the fumes in and sets off the co2 alarm. Can I put an extension on the exhaust pipe and route it to the other side of the TC?

  • All campers I see have generator tailpipe extended outside camper walls.
Propane is giving much less poison fumes that gasoline, so it is way safer to run, but still should not get inside.
Crucial with any tailpipe is to observe winds and park TC accordingly.
Parking with tailpipe down the wind not always is the best as wind can make Vortex behind square camper and push fumes under it.
  • When I installed our generator in our fifth wheel, I ran my exhaust all the way to the rear. I also use a Gen-Turi on it. I have had no issues this way and have run the generator non stop for 12-18 hours straight sitting at the races.
  • I have to say this... I run my 2000 watt Champ next to my truck camper and I too was worried too about the exhaust fumes coming in (I have a pop up TC so the upper is canvas) so I went to the auto parts store and purchased a 10 foot length of flex pipe. I stick the pipe over the exhaust outlet and route it away, a ways from the camper. Makes the genny even quieter too. When I break camp, I roll it up and stow it. Being flex pipe, you can roll it up like a garden hose. Think it was 15 bucks.

Send it up above the roof line.

+ 2 on that. If you don't want to, there is no reason why you could not so long as the pipe isn't a smaller diameter than the existing outlet.

Think I'd do something irregardless. CO is a silent killer.
