Onan Genny exhaust question

My genny exhaust is in front of the driver side front wheel. I "aim" my Genturi a little bit forward.

There have been a few times we've needed to install it to keep diesel fumes from blowing in through the entry door if the wind was just right. Even in the boonies!

I like the fact that it doesn't get hot, except for the steel elbow at the bottom. Turn off the generator and in 5 minutes everything is ready to pack back in the bag.

Even more important to me is the fact that when my RV was new,, Just 2 hours of Generator run time (Parked) and the dang CO alarm was tested and found to be operating normally (Very annoying when it passes that test.. But also very comforting).

I put the Gen-Turi (Camco Product sold by among others Camping WOrld) on and ran the Genny over 25 hours on at least 2 occasions non-stop and no alarm either.. I also woke up on the green side of the grass both mornings after over 12 of those hours.

I see folks yammering about "Dangers" that show they have no clue as to how their motor systems work.. Like "The air conditioner can suck in the fumes" (Not any RV air conditioner I've ever seen, Plus the fumes leave the pipe going UP and they keep going up less there is like a 100mph breeze blowing, in which case by the time they reach the A/C they will be quite diluted)

Or The EXHAUST vents can suck it in (What part of EXHAUST do they not understand, They blow OUT)

True, a Fantastic Fan on INTAKE could, in theory, but in practice See the direction of travel for the fumes.. Up Up and away


Some folks make their own "Gen-turi like" stack.. These generally work well but are also a lot heavier.. This can cause problems (in theory) though I've never heard of any problems from them.

Oh.. I have had a neighbor's generator test my CO alarm too.

I used a piece of exhaust flex pipe and a piece of conduit pipe and lean it against the mirror. And since my a/c is in the basement don't have to worry about that. And support the Gen exhaust pipe (put something under it)

If you're not into building something, the Genturi is an excellent product.

I also built mine from items found at Home Depot but where are you dry camping? The idea of dry camping is normally to get where there is lots of room, fewer people with the ability to park where the wind takes the fumes AWAY from the MH. I have never had to use mine when I dry camped. Mine was used when I was forced into a business commitment without hookups & tight parking. It has been in the RV garage since then.

Or you can make one yourself. I don't have a photo but here is what I did:

Bought a 90 exhaust elbow at an auto parts store, making sure that one end of it would fit over the exhaust pipe of the rig. Bought a length 4" white plastic pipe. Drilled a couple of holes a few inches in from one end, attached a couple of stainless bolts in the holes, the bolts being inside the pipe. Notched the other end of the elbow. Push the elbow onto the exhaust pipe, notched end up. Placed the plastic pipe over the elbow with the bolts in the notches to hold it in place. I cut the pipe into two sections so it would fit in the basement storage bins. I used to attach the pipe to the side of the rig using bungee cords and suction cups but on this rig just leaning it on the roof edge and the mirror it is stable enough. Make sure the pipe clears the roof line and isn't too close the the air intake of the AC. You should also support the genies exhaust pipe to the ground to take the weight of it.
