1980 was first year Honda came out with the 110cc - They thought the extra displacement would compensate for not having dual range. That was the only year it did not have it because customers demanded dual range be returned. I don't remember what year they added dual range to the 90cc. I learned to ride on Honda Trails and still own a Passport.
Expect to pay $4+ for a good running VW buggy. If you're willing to put in some work, there are deals for half that price. Suzuki is pulling out of North America this year. Hopefully there is strong enough aftermarket to keep owners supplied with parts, but it doesn't compare with the part resources I have for my air-cooled VW's. I was looking for light rig that was under 10' that could be used for logging roads and runs to town - The Samurai and Tracker/Sidekick were my second choice and the Jeep flat fender or CJ5 was third.
