I actually spent a lot of time trying to figure out how to use a 1181 when they first came out. We wanted one.
But without fudgeing the minimum requirement of "We had to be able to fully use the camper with the slide positioned fully inside the camper" we couldn't do it...
Having the slide moved out a little bit out is like being a little bit pregnant... not acceptable... we wanted to be able to do the normal things that we do everyday with the slide fully in... and have the option to have the slide out too.
Climbing the steps to get through the almost blocked door on the 1181 was daunting... then it was like entering the path through a skinny maze... passing each other was absolutely impossible. One of us would have to climb onto something or go outside and start over.
We have slept in our Lance 1161 for 1081 nights... we have used the camper with the slide in many more than 50 nights... and that would only be around 5% of the time... it's actually higher.
Why has it been important? In very cold weather it reduces the amount of cubic feet to be heated. In high winds it reduces buffetting of the camper and protects the automatic slide awning. And of couse... when we want to appear to be "just parked" when we are actually staying overnight.
So.. if I ruffled your feathers I'm sorry.
I stick by my opinion... the 1181 isn't a functioning truck camper with the slide pulled all the way in.
Anyone can find this out for themselves. You big guys don't stand a chance!
Post pictures if you have a solution to any meaningful use with the slide FULLY in!
