We don't have a Lance 1181. We can use our Host Double Slide with the slides closed after we get in. We have to realistically open to get in. I can slide by on my tiptoes, and dw is small enough sideways.
Afterwards, we sometimes close ours. An example is when it is very cold (slows the cycling since the area is a lot smaller, or as others have mentioned stealth camping. I can easily reach the switch for the slide with it closed.
On the other hand, without our slides, our TC would always have a small floor. There's almost always a tradeoff.
