GFI tripping

Took my 2004 JayCo Quest pop-up camper (10 ft box) camping this weekend with my 2 brothers. All of us had cell phones but only 2 wall chargers. At night we would plug 2 cell phones up but within minutes, the GFI would trip. It wouldn't reset for a few minutes until there was a "cool down" period. We could run either charger just fine alone all night but with 2 chargers plugged into any of the 3 outlets would cause the GFI to trip.
Do cell phone chargers draw that much current that this is normal to trip the GFI or might I have another electrical problem with my pop-up? I'm not an electrician but it just seemed a low demand situation to not be able to charge 2 cell phones at once on this circuit. Your thoughts and suggestions are most appreciated.

  • Thanks to all for the feedback. I have some direction to get this matter fixed.
  • A few weeks ago, my GFI was tripping. Everything in the kitchen was dead, and I noticed that my converter had also stopped working. (The converter in my fifth-wheel was located in the front storage compartment under the "nose".) A folding chair in its nylon sack had moved during travel so that it was touching the converter's ground wire. Moving that sack away from the converter fixed the problem.

Before replacing anything, I would check everything that might be on the circuit with the GFI, including the converter. We used to have a pop-up, and the converter was in an under-seat storage area in which I had all kinds of stuff.
