I can't anymore find the article and the discussions.
But the techie said that GM battery they call Ultium (sp?) comes in soft pouches which can be stacked one-on-top of another boosting power density.
He added though that there is reason by Tesla batteries are encased in metal and linear. And that's for preventing explosive fireballs and that GM's theory is good but exponentially more dangerous (which I guess, a non techie myself) that it's because of the soft pouches combined with multiple stacking.
