The dealer has been testing the truck. To my surprise they are not able to reproduce any of the symptoms I have been experiencing.
They did say a few things that I would like your thoughts about because the service write up people admit they don't have enough knowledge to answer my questions. So I'll ask them here and maybe you could give me your thoughts.
They said the area where the slip yoke seal is damp but they wouldn't do anything about it now.
They said there is a front pinion seal leak (not leaking but damp actually)that should be fixed but they can't tell me what a front pinion seal is or why it should be replaced now.
They told me a few weeks ago that the trans fluid flushing machines do such a good job now that the internal filter no longer needs to be replaced. Just the external filter needs to be replaced. HOWEVER, now they are recommending the internal filter to be replaced at an additional cost of $200 over the $149 to use the machine to flush the fluid out of the whole trans system. This doesn't include the transfer case fluid which was done a few thousand miles ago.
Questions:
1. Do you agree with their recommendation about the slip yoke seal and why?
2. What and where is a front pinion seal and if it is damp should it be replaced now and why?
3. Does the internal filter need to be replaced?
4. Is the total price of $350 to flush the fluid and replace the internal filter excessive? I replaced the external filter a few weeks ago.
Thanks.
