- ksssExplorerThe K-30 4x4 SRW I had with a 6.2 (J series) with a turbo 400 tranny had 250K on it when I sold it, never an issue. That is far from 500K but never the less. I think the 6.2 with 700R4 was actually harder on the tranny due to not having enough power to maintain OD. I think that motor killed a lot of 700's prematurely. The 400 never had that issue. The 6.2 with the 400 tranny was a solid truck for me. It is the same combo that was put in a decades worth of military Hummers. Not much power, but they ran.
- Cummins12V98Explorer IIIGrit dog, after thinking about my response to your "bs flag" comment It may have been a bit harsh so I apologize for that BUT bottom line i will NOT set back quietly when I basically get accused of lying.

Recently sold my 86 C20 with a Turbo 400 auto that had around 450k on it. Shifted as good as the day I bought it with 30k.
Almost a half million miles on a turbo 400?
I gotta launch the bs flag on this one. And I think TH 350s and 400s are good transmissions, for the record.
They are pretty stout. With good maintenance and the fact that the 6.2 diesel only puts out 130hp or so, and less that 300 ftlbs of torque, I could see it.
A turbo 400 will take a lot of abuse, and a 6.2 can't really dish much out. :D
The 6.2 went 180k with excellent maintenance commuting for construction in NW WA. Two valve springs broke so I dropped in a 6.5 already had the banks PowerPack. I should have just replaced all the valve springs! Tuned the pump to 6.5 specs. GM replaced 3 long blocks under warranty, cracked blocks.
Mileage on filter 53k (453k) on 2/14. A couple years more driving it puts it close to 500k. - Cummins12V98Explorer III

Well you can kiss my AZZ. I have ZERO reason to lie on here about anything. Plain and simple I took it to a Trans shop at 30k when I bought it and had the converter tapped. I would drain and refill with new filter around every 30k or so. I also used a bottle of LubeGuard RED every time.
Bought it in 87 commuted with it for at least 300k and gave it to my Daughter who drove it for several years til she ran it out of water. To be clear the 450K was minimum amount of miles.
BTW there are NO adjustments on that trans.
Another think I am sure you will call BS on is the fact it still has the original rear diff and U joints. - parker_roweExplorer

Never had one go bad yet in my 61 years of using them and millions of miles of use. The 1984 Chevy Heavy Half pickup with the 6.2 diesel for example had 168,000 on it and was use to pull our boats and travel trailers when we sold it to the son of a Michigan State Police Officer close friends of ours.
He drove it until it had 497,000 miles on it pulling maintenance trailers back and forth across Michigan twice a week as he was the maintenance person for a 3 location apartment complex (1 on the West Michigan Lakeshore and 2 on the east side of the state - Pontiac and Bay City). It was totaled by being hit and crunched between vehicles from the rear of the dual axle enclosed trailer by a semi during a whiteout snow storm between Detroit and Bay City on the highway in a multi-vehicle pileup.
Still had the original engine and transmission in the truck, we know. 497,000 MILES!!! Just 3,000 short of half a million miles! Cummins12V98 wrote:
