Welcome to the club. Very well documented issue. Many, many owners of that era Chevy and GMC trucks have had the rotted brake/fuel/transmission lines. Mine included. Many times the lines rot under the frame under the drivers side seat where the brake lines run into the ABS pump. When the mechanic checks, have them also look at the coolant lines that run from the engine to the radiator. Those are problematic as well. Was your truck ever in the "rust belt" states for a period of time. I ask because many of the GM fanboys who defend GM over these brake line issues claim that only trucks used in states that use salt or the melting spray solution on the roads in the winter are affected. I see you had the truck in Florida before moving to California.
Not sure what the Fanboy comment is for. All vehicles have corrosion problems sooner or later in the rust belt.
Al I can say is that my 2001 Chevy 3500DRW D/A never had any corrosion issues in the 10 years that I had it... But any brand would've fared the same as I am in Phoenix AZ... Not sure if that makes me a "fanboy" or not.
I say that because there are is a certain segment out there that quickly comes to the defense of any criticism levied. A quick google search shows that rusted/rotted brakes lines has been a big issue with the 2001 and up GM trucks. Don't see anywhere's near the same number of complaints on the competition for these same years. How much salt is dumped on your roads in Phoenix?
Zero. When I said that all vehicles in the rust belt will eventually be corrosion victums... That didn't mean that it would be the brake lines in all of them... It will be whatever is the weakest link in the vehicle... I have heard of many where it is the frame that rusts in half... Not sure I'd be happy with that scenario either. At least brake lines can be replaced... Frame.... Not so easy.
My FIL plowed for Anne Arundel County (MD), he had a Ram 2500. The whole truck literally rusted apart. I had a 99 Ram 1500 before this one, quarter panels were on their way out...
