Factory GM Brake Controllers

The simple adjustment is right there in your owners manual. Settings that others use is of no use to you. The factory controller is much better than your previous controller.

My TT loaded is lighter than your's.....just short of 5,000 pounds. For me the GM brake controller has worked wonderfully. Two panic stops for dopes left turning in front of me...straight and true. I'm set at 6.5.

Sorry, but i disagree. The gm itbc is ok, but the prodigy p3 i had prior was a stronger braking unit. I had the factory itbc in the 15 Silverado i had. Just my opinion

The OEM Controller works fine.

My trailer is over 18,000 pounds, I doubt my settings would be relevant. If I was towing your 8,500# trailer I doubt I would even need the Controller :)

Camper G, disagree anytime! I'm interested in your opinion.

Just hope part of the "system" doesn't go bad because then the whole integrated controller shuts down.

Had that happen to mine in July '16. The part wasn't available to fix it so I had to wire in an aftermarket controller in order to tow.
The dealer did finally call me the beginning of Jan. '17 to tell me they had the part now if I wanted to bring my truck back in to have them fix it.:R

Mine is not much heavier than the o/p and have it set at 3.5. Seems to work just fine. When I first bought the 2016 Chevy the guy at my local rv service place, who I have used for years, said most people with my size rigs use 3.5. Works for me, your situation may be different.

The wifes '16 1500 chevy crew cab 4x4 has the brake controller.

I pull a loaded 10k car hauler with a 7800 lb blue tractor/cab (9640 lb on the trailers axles) and 980-1040 lbs on the trucks rear axle. I also pony a 6800 lb GN tri axle stock trailer ( empty) from home to job sites when its muddy
Much better braking performance (less adjustments needed day to day) than the Prodigy in her '06 1500 crew cab Z71 chevy.

my 2015 gmc factory unit performs way better than my prodigy ever did on my 04 GMC. Best thing to do is follow the manual instructions and see how it performs. I suppose it can vary depending on vehicle.

The adjustment of every proportional brake controller including the vehicle manufacturer designs vary based on the type, size, and condition of each trailer. The procedure outlined in the vehicle owner's manual accounts for this.
