- RubiranchExplorerWe just installed a factory break control on a 2017 F-250.
The dealer told us once it was installed to bring the truck in so they can program the it to PCM.
The truck came with a hitch but no brake control????????? - Grit_dogTrailblazerIBC is convienent and they've worked fine in all of the big 3 trucks I've had over the last 5 years or so. Some trucks, Rams I think had some issues in the early 4th gens.
I would not consider it a love affair with them. So far the greatest benefit to me has been not having to hook up another brake controller every year or 2 in my new work trucks.
I've got the same old brake controller in my 07 Dodge that was in it when I bought it in 08. Plug a trailer in, it stops the trailer. Only needs a level adjustment if inadvertently moved the knob and gain is easy to adjust.
Wouldn't be a deal breaker for me in a new truck but most all come with them now anyway if they have a trailer package. - Dayle1Explorer IIThere were really good aftermarket units, but none available today as far as I know. The Jordan 20/20 was inexpensive and tied directly to the brake pedal. It was slightly better than the GM IBC and small enough to mount thru the dash right next to the steering wheel. Very EZ to see and activate manual braking. I still have the unit, but looks like it will stay on the shelf.
- TurnThePageExplorerWith the IBC the tow vehicle and trailer behave as one unit. So smooth and controlled. Way better than either of the aftermarket controllers I've used in the past.
- Edd505ExplorerOK I have used the IBC now towing the same 5W and the IBC is much smoother and seems to respond quicker. Anyone looking for a P2?
- HybridhunterExplorerI've had a few variations of both (Ford primarily). Night and day, no comparison in favor of the IBC.
- otrfunExplorer IIWe have the RAM IBC and the Tekonsha P3 installed on our 2016 Ram. If you only need 0 - 8v (or 0 - 2.0 amps per brake assembly) for maximum/emergency braking, the Ram IBC works great. The P3 works great and supports everything from 0 to 12v (0 - 3.0 amps per brake assembly).
If you go aftermarket highly recommend the Tekonsha P3. With the right pigtail it's plug & play with most of the late model Rams. - Willcamp4ExplorerIn my last Ford truck (2000) I had the Prodigy aftermarket controller. Although it worked well, it required adjustment for different conditions and never worked as well as the factory controller in my 2012. The factory unit does everything, works seamlessly with the trailer brakes and speed controls, has self tests and displays on performance. It even records the number of miles towing and differentiates between different trailers with preset levels for the different trailers. Great unit and way worth the price.
- beermanjoeExplorerI will not go back to an aftermarket controller. My last 2 truck have had the IBC.No jerking at all.
- S_DavisExplorerI use the IBC on my 2013 chev towing a 14,000lb trailer and it has worked flawlessly, it is so smooth it seems like it is not working but the braking power is there.
