It is generally accepted that extended warranties are not worth the cost.
Take that same amount of money and put it into a savings account or CD and you likely will be money ahead in the end.
The only way to be sure you have a real GM backed warranty is to get it through a dealer.....and even then you have to be VERY specific as they handle third party junk too.
