Before I retired from GM one of the major products I was working on was a 4.5L diesel for the 1500 line of trucks. I was heavily involved as a engineering liaison between the product engineers and the assembly plant. This diesel had a couple of (in my view) major design flaws that were being band aided but when GM, along with Ford and Chrysler, announced they were dropping their light duty diesel programs I was both disappointed and elated. Disappointed because they were being dropped but elated because a delay would give GM time to work out the flaws, if GM would pick up the program again. I am disappointed that the Colorado/Canyon is getting the diesel and not the 1500. The 4.5L diesel showed in testing to have a lot of promise.
