Gm Trucks

I have been a fan of Chevy all my life and had good luck. After this 03 2500hd I am ready to jump ship. I have had driveline problems for 6 months and some were my fault and some may be the shops problem. I have had a vibration that I can't find. I have done all the brakes, U-joints,transmission, transfer case, drive shaft balanced and still have the vibration. Now I crawl under the truck and grab the front yoke of the rear drive shaft and can move it up and down. When I do it I can hear a clunk in the transfer case. It doesn't end there either. My instrument cluster is on the fritz again after being replaced once under warranty. Also my service 4wd keeps showing up. This truck is by far the worst vehicle I have ever owned. I can't affor a new one yet, but when I can Ford may very well get my money.

You have 371,000 miles on on a 13 yr old truck ! am I missing something? Have there been ongoing problems from the start? I apologize that wasn't helpful from me at all

    His '98 K1500 has the 371,000 miles, not the '03 2500.

You can get a bad one in any brand. Even though I am very much a Ford fan, I would not completely give up on GM just because of that one. Although I will never own another GM product due to the way they have treated us on some 3500 Express vans for our small business.

Ah ok that makes sense, (now that I have my foot firmly entrenched in my mouth) What problems did the 3500's have?

  • Have you driven on pavement with it in 4x4 mode ?

Was it a two peice drive shaft and now converted to a single drive shaft?

There is a weakness in the transfer case...there was a TSB, IIRC...and an aftermarket kit to fix that, but only know for sure on older models

    Hope you figure it out

  • Sorry for your issues, but the truck is 13 years old. I have had no issues with any GM truck I have owned other than normal wear and tear and the occasional TSB. You may want to consider a rebuild or a newer truck.
