GMC Canyon & 30' Airstream

I know a mid size isn't for everybody but it looks like they could work for some.

Tow Test

I read on a Colorado forum that an integrated trailer brake controller will be available in 2016.
  • :) Hi, I'm guessing that this truck has a 6 speed trans and they commented that it rarely got into 5th gear and when it did it was at 3,000 RPM. This is clearly too much trailer for this truck. Now strap a 30' 7,000 lb white box behind this truck and you will see a huge failure.

I tow a 25' Airstream with a GVWR of 6,300 lbs with a Lincoln rated to tow 8,900 lbs and soon with an F-150 rated to tow 11,200 lbs and that's plenty as far as I'm concerned.
  • They were testing its towing ability at max load! That's what I got out of it. Nowhere did I get the assumption they were loading it to go camping. Just as a test.

As long as the trailer has brakes he should be OK. ;)

I wouldn't want to pull a trailer that big with it but it would work well for one my size or even a little larger.

  • I'll agree with the two posts above. It's not just about pulling - it's also about stopping, going down steep grades, and a safety margin in emergency situations.
  • Have to agree with Ivylog above.
I have seriously checked out the GMC Canyon and really like it. But, not for towing a fully loaded 30 foot RV.

It's easy to put 1000+ lbs of stuff in a RV and as best as I can tell, they tested an empty Airstream. I own a 30' Airstream and while they tow great, there is no way I'd waste my money on that small a truck to pull it in the real world.
  • Interesting test. I have read and watched (youtube tests) nothing but positive things about the new Chevy Colorado/ GMC Canyon. Looks like a winner.
