Current Automatics in all HD pickups ARE durable, not sure of your point.
How many AISIN auto FAILURES can you name?
Some just hold on to nostalgia and cannot swallow their pride and admit the technology has surpassed their skill. I love driving manuals and will probably always have one in the fleet. But I also know from a pure performance standpoint I probably won’t beat or at least not consistently beat what the new autos can do.
No auto will ever have the durability of a manual. I have one that is over 30 years old and it works like new. No automatic will ever compete with that.
If I liked automatic transmissions, I'd have one. I have nothing against them other than the durability issues. I just don't like them and I doubt I could ever change that.
