- Cummins12V98Explorer IIISo bottom line it's a "GM Made" transmission, NOT made by Allison. Allison is granting GM to use their name!!!
- GrooverExplorer III wonder how much different this transmission is from the Ford 10 speed for Super Duty trucks. I know that officially the joint venture was only for the half ton trucks but I don't believe that either one started with a clean sheet for the heavier transmission.
- ksssExplorerIf they thought there was money in it to offer a manual, they would offer it. I think the take rate on it would actually be very minimal.

Too bad they won't just give us a 7, 8, or 9 speed manual instead.
That's a lot of development work for you and the other 12 customers. ;)
The transmissions already exist. It is just a matter of being willing to install it and market it. There's plenty of demand for it, people just don't want derated trucks just to have a manual. A manual that would hold up would sell and did sell in the past. - ExxWhyExplorer

This video has a segment on the new 10 speed Allison transmission at 6:28. The PTO feature is interesting.

Also I read somewhere that GM's new Duramax/Allison will not be torque limited in any gear.
So they are using the drive-line, U-joints, and rear diff out of a class 7/8 truck?
I would take that comment with a grain of salt. I probably should not have even mentioned it.Me Again wrote:

Lol, that would be a bit of overkill.... the big rigs still have up to twice the torque and are moving up to 3 times the weight of a pickup. Having said that, the rear axle is larger, IIRC about a 12" ring gear.- twodownzeroExplorerToo bad they won't just give us a 7, 8, or 9 speed manual instead.
