No doubt in my mind they will continue to be on top !
Hate??. If you are referencing me. I don't hate them. In fact I want them to do well as I am a 3rd tier GM supplier. However, I just know what they have been doing for the last 6 years.
Part of the bailout requirements was for them to in effect replace the company I work for, with in house products. So they let the contract lapse, but had to come begging back when they could not do it as good, or as fast. Now they are FINALLY revamping the Lamda Theda project to bring it up to date. We still do a bunch of GM stuff, But most of it goes to Korea, and we have beed told that they are having problems with the Camero, and that they are looking to give it to us as well.
That is what I'm talking about. They let the world get ahead of them, and have to try to play catchup. Ford no longer worries about certian GM products, but are instead working on out selling Toyotas with the Fusion. And going by what I see running thru our machines. Ford is doing a great job of it. We are running 24/7 to try to keep up with them. - ls1mikeExplorer II

I just bought a 2013 Equinox. I drove the RAV4, CRV, Escape and Forester. The Equinox was the by far the quiest and it had the nicest interior. The wife picked that over all the rest.

- MARK_VANDERBENTExplorerIn case you all are wondering ?? GM sells the most autos in the USA than any other manufacturer. They must be doing something right !! and now they are even leaner and meaner ! I follow the stats from goodcarbadcar.org and month after month GM is the top seller. FACT !

Anyone remember that Detroit had many million mile proto-types that were disassembled

I do.
I also agree about bean counters running companies. Recall the the 1980's when a bean counter ran GM and market share plunged...around 20 % in that decade.
Compare that decade to the years when an enthusiast engineer (Ed Cole) ran Chevy...then GM....these were the glory and best market share years of GM. - TerryallanExplorer II

Why did they wait so long?
:h not sure what you mean by this. Has GM had issues with previous new product launches? I think why they have done this is due to the fact their (every auto manufacture) vendors are lite in the engineer area maybe.

To try to come up to Ford's truck standard. To try to be more like Ford. Their trucks have remained virtually unchanged for the last several years, While Ford has marched steadily forward. The only place GM is expanding in, Is China. They have lost 70,000 jobs in the US since the bailout. They are growing in China. We in effect paid them to move jobs to China. - BenKExplorerMeans this OEM has realized that their bean counter management of the engineering
