In the USAF back in 71 I was in 20th Air Division Norad, A 4 story solid concrete building that could be self sustaining for almost a year and a half, in case of nuclear war, (yeah, cold war with Russia back then)..Part of the building was a power plant. We had 6 diesel's that were huge...you could walk up on a gangplank to take cylinder readings.
They were 6 cylinder Nordberg diesel engines...took 200 psi to start them up...they were called 136 SC Nordberg's (believe that is the correct spelling)....SC stood for super charged.
Diesel Engine for Synchronous Generator
Nordberg Manufacturing Co.
Order # 9018-0508
Model # FS-136-SC
13" Bore
16 1/2" Stroke
RPM: 450
Anyway, they were 6 cylinder diesel engines...3 ran 24/7, then the 3 standby engines would rotate out with them...About the size of diesel they used in locomotives at one time...
