Maybe? Not sure about the new ones. I don't think it's the frame per se....from what I understand these receivers are designed to be part of a crumple zone in the event of a rear end collision. So where the receiver is attached to the frame is designed as part of the crumple zone. It sounds to me it's not overall frame strength, just the rear area where you would attach a receiver. Also why GM welded in the receiver instead of bolting it on, they don't want anybody messing with it, which is why the DuraBurb guys couldn't put theirs in place of the OEM but had to hang it underneath. I would think the new heavier hitch is still attached to the same crumple zone part of the frame, and so why they are sticking to 1k tongue weight. Really though, if the frame can't carry more, what makes them think it would tow more?
