2nd battery install in a GMT900 Suburban - TP2 option

After doing much research, I finally installed a second battery in my Burb. I wanted it to look as factory as possible. The GMT900 is also the Silverado/Sierra platform, as well as the Tahoe, so between diesel pickups and police Tahoes, a second battery option is available, if you know the parts to get.

I did this for several reasons - extra power for dry camping, and also the fact that my 16 year-old daughter just got her license and this will be the primary vehicle she drives. No more dead batteries.

I used all factory parts, including the relay to isolate the second battery. This allows the use of the primary to power accessories, while keeping the auxiliary electrically isolated to prevent rundown. Once the ignition is turned to start or run, the aux battery is reconnected to provide power for starting. The relay stays closed to allow the alternator to charge both batteries when the engine is running.

Other than the blue conduit along the firewall (which seemed like a good idea at the time :S ), it looks just about stock/factory. Not counting the battery, I spent around $275 for everything.

I can't take credit -stole this from another forum. Full writeup and lots of pics here: CLICK HERE

Here's a pic of the finished project:
