es, I was one of the first to ID why or guess why GM went to the
stupid receiver on the GMT800 and now the GMT900 with it fully
out of sight and integrated into the bumper (hence...crumple zone
duties)
Mainly for looks for those who think a receiver is ugly and most of
them do NOT tow a thing, ever with their TVs (pickups and SUVs)
What Duraburb did is what I've noodled if I ever own a GMT900 Sub
Yes, the rear portion of the frame rails now has the bumper cross member
WELDED to the frame. There is a picture that Barca took of the a new GMT900
and it clearly shows the crumple zone stress raisers...hence the wimpy
1,000 lb max tongue weight in WD mode
Assume Duraburb left the OEM recevier untouched to maintain the various
DOT and OEM certifications...but bolted (I'd not weld) a very long
and substantive gusset/bracket marrying a OEM after market receiver
to the whole TV rear frame system. I'd guess up to and hopefully past
the rear axle arch in the frame
As for anyone saying no longer as safe rear ending this, as the
crumple zone is now bolstered by this new receiver. ABSOLUTELY and
no different from any other traditional receiver out there
Maybe fabricated instead of cut plate bracket/gusset.
Only drilled to the frame rail 'web'. A big no-no to touch the frame
rail flanges, unless there are stress spreaders
Similar philosophy as Jeremiah's pic from that guy in Canada. Move
the stresses to another or to several other places to either reduce or
focus on a stronger place(s)
Again...all for marketings request to have a hidden receiver for the
majority of buyers out there. Part of why they dropped the 8,600 GVWR
as few ever consider and even less order a 8.6K GVWR Sub anymore
Only those who either know or 'been there done that with a half ton'...
