I could ask for clarification from Duraburb. The axle limitation for the half ton makes sense. Somwhere around 1000 pounds of TW will reach rear axle rating. And maybe with the 3/4 ton with heavier Duramax has similar issues, but I suspect rear axle weight is unaffected by a heavier engine/trans. But My rear axle is 5500 pounds with about 3500 pounds empty. So the rear axle should handle another 1500 pounds from trailer TW. And even the owners manual says:
Vehicle Series Hitch Type Maximum Tongue Weight
1500 Weight Carrying 272 kg (600 lbs)
2500 Weight Carrying 453 kg (1,000 lbs)
1500 Weight Distributing 499 kg (1,100 lbs)
2500 Weight Distributing 680 kg (1,500 lbs)
So everything seems to be plenty capable for more than 1000 pounds except the OEM receiver and possibly any frame behind the rear axle to which another receiver could be mounted.
I'm open to a second receiver if it added real world TW capability. I can hide the OEM one:

I sent an inquiry to Can-Am. I'll post any useful response.
