GMT900 Suburban - Custom Receiver Hitch

I was doing some Suburban research and stumbled upon Duraburbs YouTube channel. Specifically, they claimed they can get a Suburban 2500 to tow up to 17,000 lbs.

Here is the Video.

As we know, the GMT900 Suburban 2500 is supplied with a non replaceable integrated hitch limited to 1,000 lbs tongue weight under weight distribution.

Seems the folks at Duraburb have figured out how to add a Curt XD receiver to the GMT900 with a 17,000 lb trailer weight tow rating.

Here is a screen shot I took from the video..

How do you all feel about doing this? Looks like an off the shelf hitch, surely it's bolted on.

Thanks!

Jeremiah

    Dear duraburb,

I had a question about upgrading the receiver on a 2007+ GMT 900 SUV. I have a 2011 2500 Suburban with the wimpy 1000 pound OEM receiver. I have come across a few people mention you use the Curt XD 15324 receiver. Does that bolt right up or do you have to modify it? Curt claims it does not fit my SUV.

    Dear APT,

We have a propitiatory kit to make it work but that does not change tongue weight, just tow capacity. Tongue weight is determined by a combination of frame capacity and gross rear axle weight rating. You should never (nor need to) exceed the 1K capacity.

So I contacted Curt Manufacturing and got:

No this hitch will not fit on that vehicle. All Suburbans and Tahoe’s from 2007 on where factory equipped with a hitch. We have never made or test fitted any hitches on these vehicles. I have had people try to fit truck hitches on theses with no success.

    Etrailer:

    Thank you for your interest.

At this time, none of my manufacturers have confirmed fits for the 2011 Chevrolet Suburban due to the OEM hitch. We recommend visiting your local dealership to see if Chevy offers a heftier hitch for your vehicle.

Please email or call 1-800-298-8924 ext 332 if you have any other questions.

I am no longer planning to upgrade my TT this year so stopped pursuing receiver upgraded capability. If/when I do, I will probably have Can-Am do their magic. I have not contacted them yet. Maybe I'll send them a quick note.
