Good bye V10. What should be next?

We have had 3 Ford V10 250s and were very happy towing our big 5ers all across country. Our present 5er is 11,200 pounds empty. We just got back from the Ford dealer and will have to go with a V8 6.2 liter. We have had a 4.3 rear end and found it beneficial. Has anyone used this vehicle for towing? Are you happy with it? What about power and miles per gallon? I think we will have to go to a 350 to get the 4.3 rear end. We do not want a diesel.
Thanks for any personal experience stories you may have.

The 3.73 gears with the 6 speed is perfect if you are not towing over 10,000 lbs. That said you are correct about not stocking 4.30 geared trucks and that is what the OP needs.
  • Most of the 6.2L Fords needed to be ordered out with the lower geared rear axle. Those shipped to the dealers are just passenger PUs.
  • Lucy, you will not need the 350 to get the 4.30 gearing. Depending on what options you want on the truck, you could run out of payload with the 250. My 13 F250 with XLT cab, and the HD service suspension, has a net payload of 3232.
