You may have gotten the numbers reversed - 4Runner weight around 4700 lbs, and can tow upwards of 6000 lbs depending on model.
The absolute heaviest small/mid SUV is the Range Rover Sport, at around 5800 lbs for the supercharged model. They must've used the M1A1's platform to build that!
Correct towing ratings for 4Runner:
V8: 2WD, 7300 lbs, 4WD: 7000 lbs.
V6: 5000 lbs
