Goodbye 2500 Suburban

Just read a thread over on another forum where a couple guys reported that they tried to order 2014 2500 Suburbans, and the model is listed as "discontinued" after 2013. Word is that the Suburban gets another redesign for the 2015 MY but no word about whether the 2500 is coming back in 2015 or gone for good.....anybody know?

  • I would guess that it is gone for good. Have no proof, have no insight.

But, everybody on this post complained that it only had a 1000 lb tongue weight rating. I am guessing that the new ones will end up with slightly more payload, that would allow max towing in the 9000 lb range with a similar tongue weight rating.

I had alerted this dropping of the 2500 for 2014 a couple months ago when GM published the 2014 order guide.

I also agree with the linked article that the 4.3 will probably be an option (or standard). The 4.3 feels and acts just like the current 5.3. For most non-towing users of the Suburban, it will improve fuel economy yet still allow a large SUV.
  • I thought that's whaT I said....the big question is will the 2500 come back in 2015 or is it gone for good?
  • They are not killing the 'burbs. Only the 2500 is going away for 2014.

They are already moving to the Explorer in hordes. Those agencies who think the Explorer won't cut it seem to like this F550 powered bad boy:

  • GM stopped making the 8.1L that you have a few years ago.

Now Ford's new plan with the full sized vans is to only put in V6 - either the 3.5L Ecoboost or the 300 HP 3.7L gas engines and one diesel, a 3.2L inline 6.

The larger vehicles are on the way out. Surprising though is the replacement Ford Transit (made in Europe since the 60's) to be built in Kansas City plant will be 3 heights and 3 lengths so it can be larger yet lighter, and get better mileage. The dual rear wheel Transit will have a 500 cubic foot interior space, while the shortest ones will be about 1/2 that interior volume.
