Goofy Garmin Directions

Is anyone else have a problem with their Garmin GPS. After the last two map "updates" it is sending us down secondary and thirdary(?) roads where we used to drive main roads and highways. If I were depending on this thing to get me to my destination I might find myself in a third world country. Garmin doesn't seem to have an answer. Really worried about heading out in the Spring on a big trip. We have the Garmin Nuvi 2450.

  • Yes, I have had the same issues with a Tom Tom, Garmin and even Goggle maps. I have no idea why they all at times plot a circuitous route; especially when I have asked for the fastest.

Last week my DW followed Goggle directions through the city to an address where she could see the road she had turned off of.

I guess it is modern technology, so we will call it progress.
  • Not sure but JMHO. Seems to me gps takes us through business districts hecause they receive incentives from towns to direct us past their businesses.

Yes. I have owned several gps units, several are Garmin. I used a unit for work for three years and over 40,000 miles and never an issue. The latest is by far the worst. The tracking is not accurate and sometimes when I stop at a redlight, the screen will start to spin. Like it's trying to figure out the direction of travel. I'm not sure I'll buy another.
  • I wrote a post on the T&TTT forum titled Death By GPS.
In Canada if I had followed the GPS in the car or my Garmin we would have been in Lake Superior.
  • Mine usually acts up around Denver. Lately it has been wrong several times about what side of the road things are on. Not a major problem but annoying in traffic. Now that you mention it I'm going to pay closer attention to it now as we sight see around this area.
  • That's why I like paper maps with the GPS.
Yes, our Garmin gave us wrong directions in Canada and the USA.
It's a nice tool but not always 100% accurate.
  • My wife also navigates with the paper map. It's our only proof that we're going the right way. Before the latest map updates our GPS was always quite accurate.
  • Have you checked your routing preferences. For a couple days mine kept telling me the freeway was closed and tried to detour me around I use mine for work so it's on 4 to 6 hours a day after a couple days it stopped doing it
