This is what I love about having an RV - if things change at the last moment then you have the flexibility. It can be governments, weather, strikes, natural disasters, you name it.
This year we completely changed our Scotland itinerary due to the weather - it would have been a disaster if we had booked a week in a cottage or pre-paid hotel, but we could just turn the other way instead.
In 2012 the company running the ferry to Spain went on strike cancelling our sailing. So we just took the short crossing to France and drove through France bypassing the strike.
One thing that makes a big difference is having some way to get onto the Internet while travelling to help re-plan.
