Grand Design Imagine 2250RK

Hi all!, its been a while but we are about to purchase our next RV. Kids are grown so we are just looking for a couples trailer and we love the design of the 2250RK. Looking for insight as to any issues to look at when we go check it out. There seems to be quite a few available but if I understand correctly the 2250 RK is no longer manufactured. We will be pulling it with our 22 F150 Powerboost (once it comes in) but have a 2022 F150 Ecoboost so weight is not an issue with this camper.
  • Issues, hahahaha. Walk around, check the outside window seals, I mean the butyl caulk between the window frame and trailer walls, ditto for the door and any storage hatches. check all the electrical plugs to make sure they work. Check on the roof for proper sealing around roof vents and anything else up there. Make sure all the hot and cold water pipe unions are tight, at the fresh water tank, city water, hot water tank and sinks, shower and toilet, most of mine were loose. Got a torque wrench, apply it to the trailer nuts before you leave with it and after 50 miles to re tighten. That's a start. Cheers. Everything else, WRITE it down on the PDI sheet.
  • Check everything, from to to bottom. Contrary to the cult like Grand Design BS you can find online, they're nothing special. I owned one. You might get handed a rare jewel, or a complete POS. Basically no better or worse than any of the other mass produced junk from others such as Thor, Forest River, fill in the blank. Built from the same components as most all others right down to the LCI frame.

The best advice I can offer is find a good dealer, or in your case it looks like you'll be buying used unless some dealer still has one sitting around.
  • Over 27 feet and a max weight of 7500 pounds does make length and weight an issue with an F150 IMO.
  • Thanks for the responses.
@Fisherman, very good points and you reminded me of a couple I will look at. This will be our third camper so we understand the "normal" camper stuff but I was hoping someone with a 2250RK would chime in with any specific issues. I will definitely make sure everything is tightened down good. That 200 miles shakedown ride from the dealership isn't the test where I want to find any issues.

We are looking at used, probably a 2021 but we aren't locked into a specific year yet although it looks like they may have upgraded some things for 2020-2021MY.

All manufacturers have some cult like followers, just like Ford, Chevy, and Dodge. I have been impressed by the Grand Design but its price is higher than others. This floorplan just seems to fit us well.

Good Dealer- Good Warranty are a great combonation!

500 pounds dry tongue and 28' is within the capability of almost all F150s on the road. The length won't be a problem unless you've got a fleet special standard cab short bed. I'd definitely want good sway control but otherwise that's a great match for most half tons.
  • I definitely think I’d have a fairly comfortable tie with this set up, at least the numbers tell me I should. I’ll run a WDH and sway control also.

Problem went to look at (again), test systems and buy the one we wanted. They knew that we were coming and why we were coming but sold it before we could get there. So now we are back on the hunt!
